MADONNA WATCH :: Beauty’s Where You Find It

POSE :: The sixteenth in a series as we count down to Madonna’s new album release.More news in Madonnaland this week: TMZ has published pictures of Madonna’s multiple stages for her highly anticipated SuperBowl performance this Sunday, February 5th.

The pictures include laser-lighting, smoke, screens, and the word Vogue is clearly visible in one of the shots. The rumoured set-list includes other chart-toppers, such as “Hung Up,” “Ray of Light,” and, of course, the new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’.”

In case you don’t know, “Vogue” is one of my favourite Madonna songs ever! It’s a song about losing inhibitions, expressing yourself, being true to where you’ve come from, coming together, and, most importantly, dancing. Take a look for yourself!

Philip Tetro is our resident Madonnaologist. He’s created a religion-based lifestyle, worshipping everything she’s ever done. You can also catch him as a regular panelist on MTV Canada’s 1 girl 5 gays and read his non-Madonna blog here.

MADONNAOLOGY : THE NEXT MADONNA?

Madonna has been such an integral part of my coming out process. I remember when I told my brother: we were in our basement watching T.V., when I suddenly turn to him and ask, “Did you always know I was gay?” His response: “Dad took us to Blockbuster once. I got Ninja Turtles and you got The Girlie Show: Live Down Under.” When I asked my sister the same thing, she turned and said “You vogue in all the mirrors in the house, and harmonize Madonna ballads while we’re trying to sleep.” When I came out to my mother, the Ray of Light album was playing in the background…literally. I remember being so mad that she turned off “Frozen” in the middle of a peaceful car ride. The rest, I guess, is history.

MADONNAOLOGY : I HOLD THE KEY

There have been several of Madonna songs that I have known since their existence, but never fully understood until I became a young adult. One song that I’ve always liked, but never necessarily connected with is “Frozen.”

…and I never heard from Madonna again!

Well, today is Madonna’s birthday. It’s like the birth of the Baby Jesus to the Gay World. The day our queen (amongst queens) plopped onto planet Earth with a little bounce that turned into a thrumming disco thud.

I must admit that Madonna’s birthday is a little bittersweet for me. You see, I spent a meaningful afternoon with M several years ago and, well, the bitch never spoke to me again. Now, I call her a bitch with love and respect. After all, anyone who has featured herself trussed like a leather-bound Thanksgiving fetish goose and had a knife wielded at her wazoo by a shaved and pierced dyke can take a little “bitch” from little ol’ me.

Meanwhile, back to my bitter heart. M was in Toronto promoting a little album called Ray of Light. I was writing a radio show in those days and suggested we get an interview with Madonna for our little audio offering. I was told by one of the on-air personalities that if he couldn’t get an interview with her, I was spit-out-of-luck. The gauntlet had been thrown. Read the full story
