The 25 Days of Christina – Day 11

One more notch on her reinvention belt! For Candyman, the third and final single off her album Back to Basics, Christina Aguilera channeled her inner classic pin-up girl. Aguilera paid a spot-on tribute to the Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth, and even Rosie the Riveter from Westinghouse’s infamous We can do it poster.

This video defined reinvention. Even though Christina had successfully accomplished a reinvention when coming out with Dirrty,  Candyman proved to the world that a reinvention could take place without the shock value. She had been there, done that. I have never seen a music video so spot on when trying to capture the essence and energy of a different era. The colours, the choreography, the sets! So much attention was paid to detail that at times I thought the costumes were superimposed onto Baby Jane’s rockin’ bod! A perfect marriage of both the sound and look of the 40′s.

Candyman was the cherry on top of the Back to Basics sundae and guaranteed to make your jukebox jump!

A pot to a pot and a half of coffee a day just cannot be a good thing, even when it’s half regular and half decaf. In an effort to reduce my caffeine intake I started mixing the two.

However, ongoing and easily triggered anxiety attacks made me look at all avenues of reducing the feeling of waiting to go on stage to give a talk.

Then I clued into the fact that once a couple weeks ago I forgot to take the tiny dose of an antidpressant with sedative qualities I actually woke up at a decent time.

It was time to make some changes to stop being a d-list Judy Garland and I stopped all coffee (but some tea) and reduced the night time drug by half. My sleep was fucked, but I was up by 8 am. That was nice.

Last night prior to heading to bed to toss and turn for quite some time I watched my nightly dose of The Daily Show and they were doing a send up of one of the Republican senators grilling Sotomayor for the Supreme Court.

Apparently he ended up on this site, “Men who look like old lesbians” I laughed when I saw Al Frankin on there.
