EDDIE STONE :: High On The Holiday

SPOOKY :: This is it! The stage is set and I’m ready for my grand entrance. It’s my favourite time of year. It’s Halloween! Over the weekend I carved three pumpkins. One was from a lumiere pumpkin, a Victorian bird cage complete with black bird inside.  The second is a candy barfing crazy pants pumpkin.  And the third decided to dress up as a mummy!

But the most fun I have for Halloween is of course, dressing up. If the occasion calls for it, I’m in full costume (although sometimes this is so even when it doesn’t call for it). If a party has a theme, I’m there.  If a night has a dress code, I’m first to be dressed.  And so, every Halloween I drag my friends and force my husband to dress up and hit the town.

Two years ago for the AIDS Committee of Toronto’s mega fundraiser ‘Fashion Scares’ I went as a 17th century aristocrat.  Later that month for Halloween I was The Queen of Hearts from Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland.  And last year I crafted a paper mache headpiece and went out as Pauly D from Jersey Shore.

This year a group of us are going as zombies.  Decaying, flesh eating zombies!  You better sleep with one eye open, or you may find me feeding on you!

Sunday Kind of Love – Holy (tucked) Halloweenies!

Interesting when a pagan tradition falls on the Christian day of Sabbath. In honour of Christendom, the Sabbath and Halloween, I’m indulging in a terrifying tradition: watching The Exorcist. This is, by far, my favourite horror movie. It chills to the core of my throbbing gristle because it shakes those religious beliefs with which many of us were raised. It is the horrific threat we cannot see. It makes us feel vulnerable. Plus, it’s a damned awesome movie! Read the full story

I hate Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is right up there with the December holidays! The only thing I like about it is February 15, because the chocolate is on sale. Despite the sales, February 15, bugs me as well with our provincial holiday called, “Family Day,” which sounds far too Christian too me.

Why hate such a holiday? Well, anytime I was in a relationship I rebelled at anything that felt contrived and forced upon me without my consent. Suddenly, because Hallmark says so, I’m supposed to be so in love that I want to go buy a gift, do a dinner or something.

Usually the day ended up in a fight, without the make up sex. Perhaps this is why I’ve learned this Pavlovian response to the day.  One time I was traveling across the country, arrived back home quite late, and didn’t have a card or anything and all hell broke lose. Sure, I know, I was a bad boyfriend.

To me it’s like doing drag. All these guys who put down the drag queens can’t wait to put on a dress come October 31st, as if they somehow now have permission to do it. I’ve never felt the need to have permission to get into a costume, especially having been a make up artists. I can do this anytime of the year.

Twisted

There are a lot of preconceived notions about porn stars.  How much we make.  Sexual promiscuity.  Drug use… or abuse.  Prostitution.  Rampant sexual perversions … or fetishes.  I’m here to tell you that whatever you think is true… probably is.

I’m kidding.  Porn stars are like snowflakes, there are a million different kinds.

As someone who’s done SEX movies, people often assume things about me.  For instance, that I’m kinky in bed off camera.  I guess that depends on what you define as kinky, but in truth I’m more of a romantic.  I’m open to anything, just kiss me while we do it!

But sometime it takes someone you trust before a fetish can surface, as one of mine has recently.

Growing up, my family was addicted to horror movies.  We’d watch Bram Stoker’s Dracula at Christmas (sorry Jesus, but vampires are sexier!).  And one of our all time favourite horror movies was… and is… Halloween.  Michael Meyers in his white mask terrorizing Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in Haddonfield, Illinois.  Doesn’t get better than that.

This powerful commanding man of few words who knows what he wants and takes it, has somehow become a sexual turn on for me.  Is it the fact that he is unpredictable?  Is it his single-minded obsession?  Is is the anonymity and mystery of the face behind the mask?

Yes, yes and yes!

Perhaps it’s also the thrill of capturing such a man.  Overpowering him and taming the beast … or the boogie man!

To quote the film:

Laurie: “What’s the boogie man?”

Dr. Loomis: “As a matter of fact, that was.”

KYLIE!

La La La, La La La La La

La La La, La La La La La

Ok, so we’ve all been at those concerts where you’ve come with your friends, you’ve paid the big bucks, you’re unimpressed with what is going on on stage, but you force yourself to sway back and forth, gyrate around a bit and hum along to avoid being the stick in the mud… right?  Am I alone in this? KYLIE, A CORONATION UPSET & HALLOWEEN

I know SOME of Kylie’s music.  I only enjoy SOME concerts I go to.  And I am SOMETIMES hard to impress.

But curtain down, cuz here comes Kylie Minogue!!  The key word to describe the concert, FUN!!

She’s basically a drag queen that has had a ton of money thrown at the production, and I loved every minute of it!  Even songs I didn’t know, I found myself grooving to.  And the crowd was basically everyone off of Church Street.  Take a bow girl, you deserve it!

For weeks now on PROUD FM we have been having the people in from TICOT  (The Imperial Court of Toronto) talking about the election and coronation of their newest Empress.  For those who don’t know (as I didn’t), there are courts in many many cities in Canada and the U.S..  The members of the court basically raise money for charities.  Two candidates stood before us.  One, well spoken, in full face, bearing gift bags.  The other, not in drag and still drunk from the night before.  This went on for weeks, with one candidate clearly the front runner (in my mind anyway).  Finally the elections took place and we anxiously awaited the announcing of the new empress at the coronation.  I didn’t get to go, but Mark, a well known face in the Village, did (see pic below).  The result?  An upset!  Follow the progress of TICOT as we continue to interview them on BREAKFAST IN BED with PATRICK & DEB on 103.9 PROUD FM, M-F 6-10a (www.proudfm.com)
