Gratitude.

The past few weeks I have been in a little bit of limbo. Making some decisions on the direction that I wist to take moving forward. Life can be like that and having a good group of coaches as friends always helps pull one out of the pit. On Friday while I was in the thick of the pit that was my life,  Shaun Proulx posted his usual Friday question on his radio show and on Facebook:

What are you appreciating on this Friday afternoon?

and over on his blog, HIMBO! Shaun also does his weekly Feel good Friday’s

My response on Shaun’s wall was what I thought was a simple reply:

just the little things this week Shaun

This hit me like a tone of bricks.

I am not appreciating all the little things in my life. Especially not the tiny things.

For it is the sum of all the good little things that totally out weigh the few grand experiences. In my coaching I often have to stop and remind my clients of exactly what they have accomplished over the course of our sessions. I detail every success and movement forward.

Thinking this through helped me see that I have not been telling myself all the good that had taken place in my life, all the things I come across in my daily life that just bring a simple smile to my face.

I needed this reminder. I took focusing on the small things in my life on as a challenge and started a new blog called thetinythings.com where I capture in realtime all the tiny things that make me smile.

I hope you enjoy. I hope you take the time to recount the great things that happen to you over the course of this week, and if you find yourself feeling a little down and out with the winter blues, take a piece of paper and start  writing down all the things that make you feel good, bring a smile to your face or are just plain worth remembering.

Gratitude 2009

I had taken a break from posting. As the seasonal blues started drifting my way (and I’m not talking Christmas but the bleak sunless winter days) and negative forces were upon me, there was only one thing I could think of doing and that was make a gratitude list.

This is just a start and I’ll post more as they come along.

Gratitude List 2009

I’m grateful for:

(added Dec 30) God sending me the most beautiful cock in a state of semi erection in the showers of the YMCA, and at the same time allowing me to shower next to the cute red head that I finally got to see naked who lives in my building.

(Dec 29) getting laid

-the great friends who’ve learned to trust to simply be myself.

-the lesbian couple co-parenting my PTSD dog

-my little Hildy, 2.5 pound Chihuahua

-my sponsor made it out of the hospital and is doing well

- finally finding the courage to challenge myself and take health risks despite my great fear of leaving what I know for something new.

-my great voice coach Christine, a woman who it turns out I can tell everything to, and I mean everything, and she doesn’t bat an eye.

-all the tremendous community support

-all the great partnerships, for those who come together to work on positive visions instead diverseness

-Obama was elected

-Joan Rivers on The Celebrity Apprentice

-My big über gay pilgrimage to see Mylène Farmer at the Stade de France, Paris – Love this video, the uncensored version with lots of body covered in blood in a church images. It upset a lot of Catholics. That’s my girl.

-my 92-year-old grandma is still around.

-being able to reconnect with friends in Europe

-having been able to visit Mexico City and see my Rwandan friends who came in for the conference.
