Housekeeping

Have you ever tried to accomplish something only to find that something in the past is coming back to haunt you? Your going through life knocking off your dream on your dream list but along come that one small thing that at the absolute worst time. It seem to rear it’s ugly head and screams NO!  Life stops. We all have experienced this at one time or another.
I once had a roommate who loved to clean he would clean all day. I loved watching him clean. it made me smile. He had a small apartment maybe 800 square feet. He would be in a flurry of activity cleaning in front but the interesting thing is, that he would leave a mess behind him. Dirty towels that just got moved from one spot to behind him you know it looks good when you can’ t see it.  The garbage bag that he got out in the kitchen and the one he got for the bathroom and the one for the bed room. The piles of laundry in every room always sorted but never actually in one pile in one location. He would go round and round in circles around the apartment It never seemed to end.  At the same time what was directly in frount of him was alway tidily.
When I first set out to be come a Life Coach I created a list of all the things that could prevent me from achieving my goal.  I called this list my mess list. These were things like clearing my credit, Fixing that relationship that May stop me from doing what I need to.  Clearing up the messes that happen when we accomplish our goals should be as much of a dream as your dreams. So what have you forgotten about? What mess have you left behind that may come back to haunt you?
Clean your messes!

The piles of laundry in every room always sorted but never actually in one pile in one location. He would go round and round in circles around the apartment. Keep your roof up!

Okay, so the thoughts I am going to explain today simply can not fit into 2 minutes.

Last week we talked about your strengths. (If you did not watch this post  then go here.)

Your strengths are “what you have to offer the world”. Theses are your gifts.

We also come with expectations, “what we need from the world”. These are our values.

Our values – or “what we expect from the world” – are kind of like our personal yard stick. They are the things that we measure our life experience by. They tell us what kind of experience we want. Values come from our history, our life experience, our families experiences, and even our communities experience.

In my practice, I often relate values to being the walls of our house. Our experiences are the foundation on which our values lie. This holds up the roof that protects us, and is in the shape of an arrow pointing up. This keeps us moving forward.

So why are Value SO IMPORTANT? How do we use them? Let’s go back to the house metaphor. Let’s just say I decided to knock one of your walls down. What would happen? Okay so, now let me knock another down. What happens to to your roof, your protection, and your ability to move forward? If values are your walls the support of your life and someone takes that away or tries too? Or what if you even prevent yourself from having what you value. How will you feel?

Feelings are one of the best ways for us to gauge whether or not one of our values is being trampled. Have an uncomfortable feeling? Chances are that something is missing. Time to check in with yourself. Values can guide us in making everyday decisions. As we know we need all 4 walls to keep our house solid. When making a decision, which of the choices will bring you the most of what you value?

So: what are your values? If I were to ask you directly most would say: MONEY, ROMANCE, ETC. The reality is that those values may not even be your values. Money is a North American value, but it may not be yours. One of the easiest ways to find your values is through money. (because we all value it!) What do you spend your money on?

For the next month keep track of what you send your money on.  At the end of the month have a look what are the patterns? This will give you a good idea of what you value. For a more specific values exploration I welcome you to drop me a line at [email protected] and I will take you through an exploration that takes about an hour over the phone.

Until next week!

Keep your roof up!

Brandon

Top eight inner gremlin fighting books.

I love to read and I find myself doing it all day long. I was talking the other day about the beliefs you hold about yourself.  Here are several of my favorite books on the subject. They all speak from different perspectives. Some are Psychology, some spirituality and finally some are from the business community. Please let me know your thoughts on any of these book and don’t hesitate to order right from the GayGuideToronto.com site.

I have a dream…

Thing won’t happen if you don’t take action. What kind of example would I be if I did not take the time to do my own Dream List after previously challenging YOU? How are your lists of dreams coming along? I have heard many people taking charge and making a commitment to writing their list. Feel free to leave yours in the comments below.
