Party Libido Style

Celebrate the Dyke March by supporting the Libido fundraiser!

Hosted by Deb Pearce, this year’s party features performers such as Lucas Silveira of the Cliks, Cozmic Cat and music from DJ Memphis Sugar and DJ Saratonin of Dinah Shore Weekend. Libido will also present raffle prizes from Good For Her, West Side Stories, Toronto Women’s Bookstore, Six West Community Acupuncture and Cherry Bomb.

“It’s a great way to celebrate Canada Day,” said committee member Mandy Rumbolt. “We have lots of great Canadian talent on the stage. We think it’s going to be a really good time.”
Advance tickets are $15 and can be bought at Good For Her, Toronto Women’s Bookstore and West Side Stories. Door tickets are $20. All proceeds go to the Dyke March.

Reaching Out To The Broader Queer Community!

This year, Toronto’s Pride Week will include the second Women’s Golf Day as part of the annual Pride festival. The event was a first in 2009, and 2010 is likely to build on the success of the day.

“As part of our efforts to reach out to the broader queer community in Toronto, we felt that a golf day was an event that would appeal to the more mature, suburban population,” says Tracey Sandilands, Executive Director of Pride Toronto.

Scheduled for Wednesday 30th June, the Golf Day will be held at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, and will be an 18-hole scramble format. Hosted once again by popular comedian and entertainer Maggie Cassella, players will tee off at 1 pm for a day filled with games, prizes and a silent auction, topped off with a three course dinner. A Mini Cooper is up for grabs for the Hole-in-One Contest.

“Not only is this is a great addition to our festival program, an added benefit is that all profits go to funding Pride Toronto’s Dyke Program,” says Sandilands.

This year’s Dyke Day has expanded from being the ‘Dyke Day Afternoon’ with programming that takes place after the annual Dyke March, to a full day of entertainment for the ever-increasing crowds.

But that doesn’t mean that only women are welcome, adds Sandilands. “Our Dyke March and Dyke Day events are not only for women, but have grown over the years to include people that are bisexual, transgender and intersex. By the same token, the Women’s Golf Day is for women and their friends – whoever they are.”

To register for the golf day, please visit www.pridetoronto.com and select Festival/Golf Day. Cost per player is $150 including golf, cart, dinner, swag bag and prizes. Dinner only costs $50.

Out With The Old…In With The Old?

father-timeOut with the Old…In with the Old? Looks like there may be a few wrinkles in your next Pride parade.

In the spirit of the New Year and new decade, let’s look ahead to new opportunities, new challenges and new successes. Yes, baby New Year shoved that old goat (2009) off into the margins of history – where he belongs – to rot in his oversized adult diaper and toothlessly gnaw on his cane.

And speaking of old guys being shoved off to the side, I recently received a very interesting press release from the Pride Committee talking about a new initiative as part of celebration of 30 years of Pride in Toronto: the new Pride Toronto 40 Plus Committee, spearheaded by Dexter Roberts.
