Radical. Really?


I’ve been hearing the term radical queer a lot lately and I’m a bit intrigued. I’ll admit, in my 40-something, busy-bee life, I’ve not been paying as much attention to the all the grassroots goings-on that I could. That being said, I’m getting my ear tuned to the radical queer buzz.

From what I understand, queer radicalism is about eschewing the constructs of a capitalist, consumerist, for-profit life and creating spaces that are sex-positive, omni-political, art-centric places for people who are “queer and weird” to gather and percolate ideas, exchange philosophy and bash back against not only the oppressive straight world but the doctrine of the “new gay culture”. Canadian Chihuahuas Against Proroguing


When I saw the Facebook page “Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament” had climbed past 200,000 members. I knew it was time for my little Hildy, my 2.5 half pound Chihuahua, to take a stand. Here average, cross demographics of Canadians were mobilizing grassroots in a way that I have not see in a very long time.

Gone were the days when Canadian’s couldn’t give a shit about politics, and our democratic institutions. Years ago I remember feeling frustrated listening to a friend who said, “I don’t vote, they’re all the same anyway.”

That’s exactly what got Harper in.

I know that, Hildy knows that.
