Well hello there dears. If you’ve been following my posts you know pre LG Fashion Week shows and the actual event cometh. If you can’t beg, borrow, threaten, buy, cajole, or sleep your way into these hot runway shows do what others do, go to the after parties. Here are two of the hottest after parties you WANT to go shopping for.
Greta Constantine at Maison Mercer
One of the hottest pre LG Fashion Week shows to get into is Greta and Ezra Constantine. The hot rumour has it that seats to their F/W 11 show, this Friday, are so coveted people are being turned away. Well why not? With a guest list such as: Ben Mulroney, Zoomer Editor In Chief Suzanne Boyd, Toronto Star Columnist Derek Chetty, Canadian fashion journalism idol David Livingstone, Little Mosque on the Prairie star Sheila McCarthy, North Bound Leather’s Marty Rotman, designer Farley Chatto and your style guy those in the know will walk on broken glass to snag an invite. If you were still unsuccessful attend the after party. On Friday, March 25th, superstar DJ David Morales will spin at Maison Mercer for this soiree. Morales will have you strutting like you were just on the runway.

VAWK at Boutique Bar
Vawk the Canadian women’s wear label (sorry guys), designed by Sunny Fong, which is becoming a hot property in Toronto is giving an even hotter show during LG Fashion Week. If you can’t get in or tackle an unsuspecting attendee for their invite to Church Street’s Boutique Bar on Thursday, March 30th at 506 Church Street starting at 10 p.m. with headlining DJ Sumation. This is going to be one stylin’ affair.

Well hello dears. It’s started and Philip Sparks was the kick off. Last night, Monday, Sparks brought his new Fall/Winter vision to warm men’s and women’s cockles this fall. The collection made up of plaid patterns, different length coats including some trimmed with fleece, a gorgeous tuxedo, sweaters and an interesting all plaid suit. The suit, worn on a model of colour, I call the “Obama” suit as you can totally see President Obama wearing this for a casual weekend away. However when you interpreted his look, Sparks produced a wearable, fall/winter 11 collection that will keep Jack Frost at bay stylishly.

You want to own from Philip Sparks: the Ontario blank scarf. This huge black and white scarf elegant enough to work but cool enough to go clubbing.

Well hello dears.
It’s that time again when Toronto fashion fanatics wait with breathless anticipation for what will be going down the runway. If the indications from Paris, London, and Milan are any indication my pre season comments are, “prepare to shop.” Last week I raved about Lady Gaga’s Mugler music with the video installation featuring tattooed zombie performance artist, Rico G! Now you’ve got to see the collection yourself.
Designer Nicola Formichetti has done a jaw-dropping, risky yet gorgeously avant-garde collection based on the idea of a Mugler monster (which Rico G is the face of). Not only this…OK, OK, I’ll stop going on about it. See the Mugler collection for yourself and don’t say I didn’t warn you.
So enough about European menswear, for now! LG Fashion Week starts Monday, March 28th with the kick-off show being Holt Renfrew’s Can’t Live Without Canadian Fashion then right after Izzy Camilleri and Adrian Mainella team up to present IZMA’s Fall/Winter 2011. Though what many people don’t know is the fun starts this Monday, March 21st with Philip Sparks show, which I will be attending with the ever fabulous Shaun Proulx, followed by the huge popular Greta and Ezra Constantine presentation on Friday, March 28th at an Audi dealership. The pre LG Fashion Week shows are signal style is coming.
So what to attend during LG Fashion Week? Remember if you are not registered and thumb-printed media you are considered a consumer which means you get the cattle seats at the shows. But if you don’t mind and just want witness all the mayhem here are the “must see” shows:
Tuesday, March 28th
Joe Fresh at 8:30 p.m.
Bustle at: 9:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 31st
Rudsak at: 6 p.m.
Friday, April 1st.
Klaxton Howl at: 6 p.m.
You can follow my runway-side commentary on right here on GayGuideToronto.com through the @GayGuideTO feed on Twitter.

This week I have some goodies for you that will get you out of your seat one way or the other.
The FAT = Alternative Fashion Week Casting Call
Toronto Alternative Fashion Week holding a cast call on Sunday, March 27,for models to work the runway. Don’t worry FAT is not looking for supermodels, quite the opposite, they want the usual, bizarre and those who normally would walk the runway. So if you dream walking the runway run don’t walk to this casting call. Then let me know if you make it. You could find your catwalk debut in a future entry of Style Guy.
Where to go: 60 Atlantic Avenue (in Liberty Village dears), 2nd Floor. The call is from 12-6 p.m.
Lady Gaga’s Mugler Music
If you’ve been following me on Facebook all this week you know I’m insane for Lady Gaga’s (I was NEVER a huge fan of Lady Gaga until I heard this so you know it has to be kick-ass cool) music she did for her recent catwalk appearance for Thierry Mugler. The video I’m currently nuts over is the video installation which was done as the background for the F/W 11 menswear show featuring Montreal-based, zombie, performer and tattooed-artist Rico G.Not only is this tres cool, dark, surreal and mysterious it’s got clips of the collection. Trust me, between the music and watching the Rico, you forget there’s actually hot clothes going down the runway. I dare you to sit still when you hear this song and not prance…I double dare you!

Dave St. Pierre coming to Harbourfront Centre
Now you think GGT’s fashion and style guy shouldn’t be letting you know about an event which involves men and women nude on stage, right? Well this was so good I didn’t want GGT fans to miss it and trust me, you won’t want to. Quebec’s Dave St. Pierre is coming to Toronto at Harbourfront Centre February 2-5th with a production titled: A Little Tenderness For Crying Out Loud! This unique dance group is about using the human body as a tool of art and dance as the medium.
Un peu de tendresse (the French title of St. Pierre’s work) is an uninhibited and bold exploration of contemporary love. Naked as the truth, 20 male and female dancers take the stage, expressing the irrepressible human need for love and affection through raw physical movement. St-Pierre’s work is often confrontational and controversial but there is an emotional core that speaks to our need to love and be loved. The realism in Un peu de tendresse… is the thread that ties us all together. “The experiences are mine, but they don’t only revolve around me,” says St-Pierre. “They’re everyone’s stories.”
If you love dance and can handle seeing 20 naked dancers performing a contemporary interpretation of love, this is for you. As with everything timeless, naked flesh will never go out of style especially when it’s a medium of expression.
Tickets: $49 through Harbourfront’s Box Office (if there are any tickets left)!

I got this from Dita Von Teese herself. Thanks to the movie Burlesque and pop culture’s exhibitionistic tendencies and interest in voyeurism, Burlesque and/or Boylesque there is an underground movement to get Gypsy Rose Lee on a Centennial stamp with the United States Postal Service (USPS). The story of Gypsy Rose Lee inspired millions around the world and spawned the movie “Gypsy” starring Natalie Wood and Roslind Russell. (If you’ve never seen Gypsy TURN IN YOUR GAY CARD now!) The goal is to get 50,000 signatures to have Lee immortalized on a stamp, every name helps. If you are fan of the art of Burlesque or Boylesque help get its grand dame on a stamp.
Click here to sign the petition!
My favourite all-time scene from Gypsy where Natalie Wood (playing Gypsy Rose Lee) goes out on stage and you see her gradually become more comfortable taking off her clothes with each performance. Just fabulous!!!
