Virgo by Josephine Wall
Enter Virgo (August 23-September 22). Of course, true to form, this mutable Earth Sign wants everything to be perfect for you. That’s why the leaves on the trees change colour in September – they’ve been green all summer long – and to a Virgo, that’s a bit boring. Virgo has also turned down the heat just enough for you to enjoy a beautiful stroll in the park with a light sweater. A Virgo says, “Bring on the Indian Summer!”
Virgo…virginal? Ha! Many Virgos laugh at that stereotype. Besides, the chastity belt does have to come off sometime!
According to astrological folklore, Virgo was once the most worshipped sign in the Zodiac. For one, it is the sign that rules the harvest, agriculture and nature. Worship to the goddess of the harvest took place every year when the Sun was moving through Virgo, and the success of the harvest during Virgo’s reign determined how much food would be available during the winter months.
Secondly, Virgo is the only sign in the zodiac that resonates female energy – yes, even the scales are men! – which means that individuals born under this sign all embody a special kind of energy that has been worshipped since the beginning of time.
Virgos are complex and interesting people, partially because they are ruled by the planet Mercury which is the ruler of communication. Virgo likes good service: remembering birthdates, pet peeves, and making sure that everyone’s shirts are tucked in or their runny noses are wiped clean. Despite all this, a Virgo’s greatest potential generally lies dormant until it is summoned forth by a truly worthy challenge. This could be in the form of a relationship, coming out, or helping a friend in need (Virgos often have the best advice!)
Virgos rule all pets. It’s true that Virgos do tend to nag and fuss, but it’s out of love rather than harassment. Virgos do try to be kind and low-maintenance – but everyone has their limits! A Virgo will hit his or her limit when the world lets them down, promises get broken, and potentials are left unrealized.
Virgos love the idea of a soul mate, given their quest for perfection. On any other day, a Virgo will keep their wits about them. Careful, precise – some can even say picky – they don’t make a move before consulting their hearts and their minds (they can analyze everything!). But that all goes out the window when love comes along! Virgo is an ambitious lover, and you can expect sex with a Virgo to improve over time.
Happy Birthday, Virgo!

Leo by Josephine Wall
It’s the middle of summer – one of the hottest times of the year. If you thought it couldn’t get much warmer, Leo (July 23 – August 22) has entered the scene and cranked up the heat. With that being said, it’s not surprising that Leo is a fixed, fire sign. Since fixed signs come along as the season is already underway – Cancer was cardinal; the kick-off of the season – Leo’s represent going deeper. At the same time, being fixed means it’s difficult to let go.
A Leo is proud. Just think of a lion and its long, beautiful mane. King of the jungle. That is what a Leo is (or wants to be!)
Leo is probably the zodiac’s most poised of risk-takers and roller-coaster riders. One minute c’est la vie; the next minute life’s a bitch. But that’s what makes you special. In the face of adversity, you stand tall. You stick up for friends. You constantly re-invent yourself. So you’re getting a little down on life… you reinvent yourself! Your part in the musical is too small? You make it bigger!
Leo’s motto is “I Will, therefore I Am”. They want to know their unique place in the universe. “What role do I play?” We know that whichever role you choose, Leo, you will play it wonderfully. Deep down, even though Leo’s can – at times – seem bold and brash, they seldom show their vulnerable side. But it’s there.
A Leo in love? With such a dramatic sign, of course they fall helplessly, passionately and desperately – and all the other signs are going to hear about it! Just don’t get in a fight with Libra (because you both are the zodiac’s biggest romantic Patsys).
Happy Birthday, Leo!

Law of Attraction (def’t:) a term used widely by those of “New Thought”. Refers to the idea that thoughts influence chance. The LOA argues that thoughts – both conscious and unconscious – can affect things outside the head.
I have a tip for everyone keeping in mind the Law of Attraction principle. People may scoff at it, but the idea is really simple (and in some ways, you are a fool if you don’t think it has any credibility. Sorry to be blunt). Think about it: if you keep dwelling on the negative, you are going to experience it. Thinking negative thoughts creates negative feeling which resonates negative energy. The same thing happens with positivity.
A simple way to condition yourself and practice the LOA is by changing your passwords. Everyone has accounts: e-mail accounts, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Formspring et al which require both usernames and passwords. Change your password to something significant to you. Maybe it is a goal, a dream of yours, an aspiration. Maybe you want a new job (this happened to me!) so change your password to reflect that. Maybe you want a new car. What kind is it? Change your password to that. Maybe you have a secret crush? Who is he/she (I bet they’re cute!) Put their name as your password (I admit that does sound borderline creepy…)
The idea is that every time you type in your password you will reflect on that desire. Thought is an important thing. It can send out energy into the universe about that exact thing, and the more time you type in that password – which people tend to do frequently on a daily basis – the more it will get out there.
Try it out! (Besides, it’s better than “password123″ or “lame33″ or whatever the case may be).

Happy Names-day to the country that invented the television, the telephone, insulin, the zipper, basketball, standard time, the electric light bulb, the baseball glove – just to name a few. To the country with one of the highest qualities of life in the world, according to the United Nations Development Index. To one of the world’s foremost producers of natural gas, copper, zinc, nickel, aluminum, and gold. To the country with the world’s largest tertiary education enrollment. To the country that supports same-sex marriage in every province – Canada, of course! We are proud to live in such a beautiful and multicultural country.
Happy Canada Day, from me to you!

I think Astrology is cool. There, I said it. And I believe myself to be a stable, down-to-earth person who isn’t outlandish and has great judgment (or so I hope… buuut I’m pretty confident). A few years ago, I got hooked on Astrology – mostly because of its uncanny accuracy. It started when I was doing my own chart, followed by the chart of family and friends around me, and was surprised to find how accurately their personality matched their signs. Signs, I say. You may think I am strange but it is true that we have more than one sign – we have many.
Here is a challenge for anyone who thinks Astrology is bogus. Maybe you don’t feel very connected to your Sun Sign. The fact is that your astrological profile includes more than just the sign under your birth date. The Sun Sign is just the tip of the iceberg. Your Sun Sign has become most common in mainstream media because it’s easy to figure out. It describes your basic nature and personality traits that remain constant throughout your life. In other words, it is the image or light you shine out into the world and comes from that innermost, truest part of you.
However, you also have a Moon Sign. This is the inner you that only close companions get to experience. Maybe it’s the private you that reveals itself behind closed doors, after you have put on something a bit more comfortable (let’s say jogging pants and your baggiest sweatshirt. Not very chic, but whatever). In addition, your Moon Sign is the part of you that acts on instinct, is unguarded, and comes out in a crisis. In everyday life, the Moon sign is what you fall back on to restore your sense of emotional security. The Moon Sign is calculated a bit differently: it depends on the date and time of your birth. For people who say that Astrology is dumb because a person born the same day can have the same Astrology profile, you’re wrong. The Moon sign can change and be under two difference signs in the same day. To check out your Moon sign, click here: http://www.lunarium.co.uk/moonsign/calculator.jsp
If that wasn’t complicated enough, you can find out your sign in Mercury (how do you communicate?), Venus (how you deal with love and romance?) as well as Mars (what makes us tick, fired up or angry?) For example, I am a Virgo but I have a Moon Sign in Scorpio. So whereas I am slightly a mixture of those two signs, in a way, the way I communicate and love can be influenced by other signs as well. Combined, this makes your astrological profile and it is more personal – and detailed – than some might think.
Try it on yourself and your friends. You might be surprised. And if you are a non-believer, when you check out your horoscope the next time, try to pay attention to both your Moon and Sun sign readings. Incorporate them together and see if you can find a deeper meaning.

The Summer Solstice has approached. The days are getting longer and hotter. Are you starting to feel the heat? Maybe after a long week at the office you can’t wait to unwind at home and engage in some of your favourite summer activities. Or perhaps after a day at the beach you are craving your favourite spot on the couch with your remote control or favourite book. Whatever the case may be, Cancer has entered the scene (June 21 – July 22) and the crab rules the Fouth House of the Zodiac, also known as the ‘House of Family and Home’. This house represents the effects of our earliest experiences and of the nurturing that we receive as children, in addition to the way that this anchors and guides the rest of our lives.
Cancerians harbor a strong sense of family and longing for community: you empathize, you offer understanding. As fiercely protective individuals, anyone lucky enough to be within a Cancerian’s inner circle enjoys a secure sense of comfort and belonging. Cancer’s stereotype is that they are often moody. Perhaps this is because they are a water sign associated with the moon, a combination that leads to shifting moods and deeply felt emotions. I read a quote Cancer which made me laugh, “Crabby? You? Only in the morning. Before lunch. All day Tuesday and most of Sunday. Leap years. At high altitudes and low barometric pressures.” And just like their symbol of the Crab, although they may sometimes appear like they have a shell on the outside, inside they are really loving and kind. But aren’t Crabs the least bit fabulous? Of course… think of Princess Diana. Or consider Julius Caesar – this Cancer emperor married Calpurnia, romanced Cleopatra – and kept boys on the side!
Cancers in love, well let’s just say they can be cute. They love with all of their hearts, and can be sentimentalists who still write love letters (…see what I mean by cute?) However, as much as Cancerians want companionship – it can also often times freak them out. I heard some good advice for Cancers on the topic of dating, “Not all frogs turn into princes on the first kiss. Try sticking it out a little longer. Keep kissing.” The strong and silent type is what will catch a Cancer’s eye. He or she provides a Cancer a cozy harbour from disappointment or emotional uncertainty – and maybe a little pampering won’t hurt, either.
Happy Birthday, Cancer! You’re not so crabby after all

This summer, Kylie Minogue has earned her title as the Modern Day Aphrodite. With her new album Aphrodite, and more specifically her newest single All The Lovers – which was released for download on June 13th and is expected to become a huge summer anthem – Ms. Minogue proves once again that she is the classiest of them all. Kylie has removed the layers of bubblegum pop and delivered a soothing, magical, sultry, and absolutely beautiful song that should be on everyone’s iPod this Pride season.
The video is unexpected – but in a good way. Like always, Kylie remains poised, exuberant, and strong. In addition, the elements of white doves, white horses, and even white elephants keeps viewers on their toes. A crowd of lovers representing all sexualities, races and genders – all in white jockies – lift Kylie up to the heavens, growing and expanding as the video progresses (until, at last, they reach as high as the tallest buildings). However, the sexiness that this video portrays, to me, is not of a raunchy and over-exploited nature, but rather, a pure expression of love, lust, unity and spirituality (although, I would agree that one criticism could be the fact that all of the lovers are models with beautiful bodies. But if you keep with the theme of Aphrodite and her worshipers, it might make more sense). At the end of the video, Kylie releases a white dove and you can see her expression is one of joy and elation.
So what does Kylie have to do with spirituality? Well, I chose this particular music review to include in a space where the discourse is more spiritually-based because not only is the song uplifting; however, I think that the message is powerful and really speaks to the changing consciousness within the emerging generations. Enjoy.

My initial hope is to post a new ‘Zodiac-themed’ article at the start of every Zodiac precession, and this one is late. Not surprisingly, Gemini (May 21 – June 20) has taken the stage. The Twins. Hmm. I wonder if they have inspired my lateness and my eagerness to put things off? As Gemini diva Marilyn Monroe once said, “I’ve been on a calendar but I’ve never been on time.”
I was reading a novel on Astrology over the weekend by author Matthew Abergel who offered a rather cheeky, but excellent, opening line for Gemini: “Haven’t we met somewhere before? You look just like my ex-boyfriend. Oh, gee, you are my ex-boyfriend.” Every Zodiac sign has their stereotypes, and Geminis possess the stereotype that they belong in bimbo-land – is that why it’s an air sign? – however, a true Gemini is actually quite clever. You see objectively and emotions don’t tend to take over your better judgment. If life were a high-school, Geminis would make the best cheerleaders. They are ideas people (think: Gemini politician and activist Harvey Milk). Your Gemini friend is probably a curious soul, perhaps a read-a-holic or a media junkie who is up on all of the current trends in one subject or another. The hallmark of Gemini is self-expression.
“Easy come, easy go,” a Gemini in love might say, as if they change their minds as often as they change their underwear – or at least we hope! Geminis tend to be smooth operators who fall in and out of love, sometimes rather quickly. Although they are known as good communicators in the Zodiac, being ruled by the planet Mercury, they don’t easily speak their hearts. Instead, a Gemini prefers things light and comfortable. Eventually, however, there comes a time in even Gemini’s life when a special individual changes all of that.
The way to win over a Gemini – well, let’s just say that you have to move. Being a clumsy, sloppy lout won’t cut it. Mister or Miss Right-for-Gemini will walk and gesture with grace (and will also have an agile mind). Geminis tend to get around, and not necessarily in a bad way. They are often times restless spirits, never afraid of living on the edge. And wow – those twins can talk an ear off! Wherever Geminis go, they tend to make friends – or enemies – but hey, at least they’ve been there. The wise Gemini often takes time to listen – not just to other people, but to the sounds around them – whether it be running of water or a horn honking right in front of them.
So Happy Birthday, Gemini - this is your moment to shine. And notice how your life might be influenced by a Gemini ‘feeling’ during this precession … you may be surprised! Note: Gemini ends at the moment of the summer solstice.
