Nate Knows...

When I heard the news that Ricky Martin had come out of the closet I was genuinely surprised. I was 9 or 10 when Ricky was hot on the scene so I was unaware of sexuality period during that time. He would pour candle wax on ladies in his videos! I took him as a man of his word (and actions)! Plus my eyes only saw Spice Girls. The Ricky tabloid fodder never cracked the shell of my Chupa Chup (Girl Power edition) lollipop.

It’s a topic I tend to shy away from. There are times where I am completely unphased and unbothered by the fact that I’m single and then there are times where I act completely unphased and unbothered by being single.

Over the weekend I had a slumber party with my fave sisters Kim, Kourt and Khlo! We ate New York-style pizza, Double Stuff Oreos (Kourtney’s fave indulgent treats) and for dessert some homemade vanilla cake (thanks, Kim) with ice cream (Khloe’s choice). We gabbed and gossiped, touching on how to handle the papazazzi and press, what it’s like to have a “Momager” (Kris Jenner is fierce) and whether or not I could pull off Khloe’s Christian Louboutin Safari pumps (for the record: I could). And somewhere in between we touched on North and South Korea.

When We Say 'Nate Knows ...' Trust Us: He Knows. Get This Movie.

ONE GREAT THING – A GayGuideGiftGuide: I received Angel-A (directed by Luc Besson who brought you The Fifth Element) as a Christmas gift from my Mom a few years ago and it was the best gift I’ve ever gotten. The idea of giving a DVD as a gift for any occasion, let alone the holidays doesn’t seem all that appealing to me, but this movie is the exception.

Angel-A was made for anybody who has ever taken life for granted.

Buy one copy for you and one for someone you couldn’t live without (maybe your own guardian angel).

I’m keeping mum about what this movie is about because I knew nothing going into it. I had never seen a trailer or an interview. There was something magical about going on a journey with the characters, not knowing the premise or anticipating a particular  scene showcased in the trailer.

This movie is the best kept secret and I know with my whole heart you will adore it.

Happy Holidays!

xx

I just got home from the Amy Sedaris event at Chapters Festival Hall and it was such a delightful evening. Amy was wearing the same dress on the Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People book cover and was just as funny in person. Dan Levy lead a super quick, yet satisfying chat with Sedaris and then a craft demonstration followed where she made “Crafty Candle Salad”, a page from the book which includes a banana decorated with mayo and a cherry placed vertically on a bed of lettuce.

What are you doing this Monday? Want to meet, in my opinion, the funniest woman in the world? Amy Sedaris, star of the cult classic TV series Strangers With Candy, frequent guest on the Late Show with David Letterman and author of I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence (New York Times bestseller) is coming to Chapters Festival Hall (142 John Street) at 7pm for a chit chat with MTV’s Dan Levy, a craft demonstration and book signing in honor of her new book Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People. I have not been this excited to meet someone in a very long time. Amy Sedaris has brought years of laughter into my family’s home and I will forever be grateful for that. I’m hoping to surprise my Dad (who is her biggest fan) by bringing him to the signing!

Watch this clip of Amy on Letterman and I’ll see you on Monday!

This stunning piece (above) worn by Christina Aguilera in the movie will be on display at the Yonge and Eglinton SilverCity (2300 Yonge Street) in honour of the movie’s release! Check out my outfit in action in the clip below!

I hope I can pull it off…

The 25 Days of Christina – Day 14

You’ll learn to begin to trust the voice within.

On December 23, 2003, Christina Aguilera released The Voice Within, her fifth and final single off Stripped. I was so happy when I watched this music video for the first time because beautiful and inspiring ballads are best matched with simple music videos to emphasize the magic of the lyrics. David LaChapelle’s black and white creation was shot in one take and acted as the garnish, instead of the main course.

I love when I listen to a song and imagine the story in my mind. With this video I was able to keep my personal visual storyboard while enjoying a unique yet subtle visual that only enhanced my own preconception.

The Voice Within is a universal message of believing in yourself and power of your inner guidance system.

This is a perfect example of why Christina’s ballads change lives.
