POLL :: Last week safer sex advocates from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and FAIR (‘For Adult Industry Responsibility’) launched a related ballot measure drive in LA County (where much American porn is produced) that would require adult film producers to obtain a public health permit from the LA County Department of Public Health. Advocates need to collect over 200,000 signatures of voters by June 5, 2012, and if successful, would place the measure on the November 2012 election—the same ballot as the presidential election.

The stated purpose of the measure “is intended to minimize the spread of sexually transmitted infections by regulating the adult film industry.” While we understand the theory behind the measure, the news makes us think (again) about the broader issue of the link between bareback porn videos and what goes on behind our closed doors:

POLL :: Anxious retailers would have us believe it’s holy-joly bliss for all as the holidays envelop us. Snowflakes, candles, romance, and sleigh-rides, right? As most of us experience a mixed bag of ranging from obligatory gatherings with those we’d sooner not to the real personal joys this time of year can bring, we want to know:

POLL :: Animal rights group PETA has built a reputation for itself over the years for it’s over-the top ways of gaining exposure and attention, including naked celebrities (above). Their latest tactic is to recruit those who would rather go naked than wear fur – for a living. A porn star-driven site, PETA.xxx, is scheduled to launch next month. But questions remain:

Kimberly McCullough as Robin Scorpio

POLL :: Paging Dr. Noah Drake! The Twitterverse, Facebook and soap opera message boards have been lit up since the October 24th episode of ABC television’s General Hospital aired. And not in a good way.

Since 1995 the show has earned viewer and critical accolades for the educational and emotional story of  heroine Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), a woman fans watched grow up and lose her first love to AIDS, only to be diagnosed with HIV herself and later have a baby thanks to advances in HIV treatment. Praise came to an abrupt end yesterday, when ABC aired what some critics call the most “unnerving hour of daytime television”, as a twist in their tale saw another General Hospital character wielding the weapon of a needle filled with Robin’s HIV-positive blood.

As disgust rages that a once provocative groundbreaking and hopeful story was so recklessly handled, the question remains:

POLL :: While we’re a bit bored by the choice of Russell Brand as first guest, the much anticipated (or, as the OWN ads say, simply “anticipated”) return to daytime television of Rosie O’Donnell happens this Monday.  Much has happened since her Queen of Nice days - The View and the Trump feud and the divorce for starters – but Ro’s got The Power of O boosting her, complete with sharing the latest O magazine cover.  But the question remains:

POLL :: While nearly a third of all Major League baseball teams have made “It Gets Better” videos to stand up against anti-gay bullying, and basketball player Kobe Bryant was fined $100,000 by the National Basketball Association after using the gay slur “f*ucking f*aggot”, last week during an exhibition game, Philadelphia Flyer Wayne Simmonds called New York Rangers forward Sean Avery (who famously joined the campaign to fight for same-sex marriage in New York this spring) the same slur – with no action taken thus far. NHL officials say they won’t fine due to conflicting accounts of what transpired on ice, despite the fact Simmonds was clearly seen mouthing the slur. But the question remains:
