ICON :: The third in a series by Madonnaologist Philip Tetro who reveals some exciting travel plans in the Queen’s schedule…
Guy Oseary, Madonna’s long-time manager and friend, tweeted on Sunday, July 24th that “Tomorrow [Monday, July 25th] Madonna starts her second week in the recording studio.” This was the first piece of exciting Madonna news to come out this week. The second was that Canadian DJ/Remixer/Producer/musical genius Deadmau5 may be the second confirmed producer for M’s new album. This excites me because DeadMau5’s music has been extremely influential in the past two years or so, and some Canadian recognition would do the girl good (so, we tried to arrest her once. Big deal!). The third piece of Madonna information to come out this week is that she will be premiering the film she’s recently directed – I am not calling it her “directorial debut” because she also directed 2008’s Filth and Wisdom…we know, you haven’t heard of it, either – WE: the love affair between Wallis Simpson and the British monarch, who famously abdicated the throne for the woman he loved (sounds terrible, we know)- at the Toronto International Film Festival. Yes, you heard me right: MADONNA IS COMING.
The last time Madonna was in Toronto for TIFF was for her then-husband, Guy Ritchie’s, film premier for Revolver. She looked amazing, yet tired, with her arm still in a sling from that terrible horse-riding accident less than two months prior. Furthermore, the premier was also only two months before the release of an album nobody thought she’d be able to put out at the time, Confessions on a Dancefloor. That album is considered by her fans (myself included) to be one of the best M albums of all time. So, don’t you see the pattern? Film premiere, amazing album; film premiere, amazing album…the next album is going to be great! It just has to be! All of this is GREAT news, regardless of the fact that I will be stalking Madonna and studying every moves she makes when she’s in Toronto. I will meet her. I just have to!
Please don’t call the police.
MADONNA IS COMING.

THIS EXCITES ME.
Britney Spears has had a plethora of leaked video footage this week, including a Director’s Cut of her 2007 hit, Gimme More,” as well as some alternative footage of her appearance in the backdrop to Madonna’s performance of Human Nature” on her last tour, Sticky and Sweet.
Why this excites me so much is because I am convinced that when things leak, it’s intentional. Someone in Madonna’s camp saw that Britney’s video leaked and was getting attention, and is thus trying to give Madonna fans a little taste. You know, start a buzz!
And boy, did it. As soon as I watched Britney’s (albeit drugged) 15 second clip in the elevator (see below), it put everything into perspective for me. I suddenly realized that Madonna wants people to start thinking about her again (not that she’s ever left my mind!). What does she have in store for her next music video? What will the next tour be like. I know Madonna’s not in the clip itself, but her spirit is. Her work is. Her art is. So, as we patiently await the Queen’s arrival, let’s all conjure up our own ideas about what’s to come. The bitch is back!

The first in a series by Madonnaologist Philip Tetro as we keep close tabs on our lady Madonna, now in studio recording her new album: Not that she ever went anywhere, but Madonna’s in the recording studio creating her 12th studio masterpiece. This is always the best time in a Madonnaologist’s life: no idea what’s going on, what she’s singing about, what the music sounds like, what she sounds like, who she’s working with, what her new look will be, etc. A new album by the end of the year? Yes, please.
It all began July 4th with a simple tweet from Guy Oseary, Madonna’s manager:
“It’s official.. Madonna‘s 1st day in the recording studio for the new album… Very exciting.. Happy 4th of july…”
It’s been over three years since the last album, Hard Candy, and at almost 53 years old, Madonna will yet again be releasing new music. She has survived since the pre-historic recording days of cassettes, and is still huge in the world of the interweb of mp3. This sort of sustenance proves my worship, and gives me reason to love her the way I do.
An official statement from Madonna herself on ICON, the official website and fan club, tells fans:
“I need to move. I need to sweat. I need to make new music! Music I can dance to. I’m on the look out for the maddest, sickest, most bad ass people to collaborate with. I’m just saying……”
Maddest, sickest, most bad ass people to collaborate with? This is a far cry from the Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Pharrell Williams phase (2008). She is rumoured to be working with Martin Solveig of “Hello (featuring Dragonette)” fame – a song that is catchy, fun, and is an internationally known hit. Its dance, yes – what Madonna’s used to. Some may think she’s playing it safe, but the bitch needs to stick with what she knows. It’s impossible to go to any nightclub without hearing a Madonna remix from any era thumping through the speakers. At Pride Toronto last weekend, I heard ten Madonna songs from one end of the street to the other. People love Madonna’s dance music, and who didn’t love Confessions on a Dancefloor – the non-stop dance album of 2005. Remixes and mash-ups galore of that era sent the club world nuts with songs about longing, love, dancing, empowerment, and plain old fun. I have such a good feeling about this one!
Two alleged clips have already leaked, less than one week after she stepped into the studio. Perez Hilton posted two, 8 second clips of what are supposedly taken from her recording studio in London. It was hard to believe until I heard that unmistakeable voice. Yes, it is Madonna singing, and that poor guy who leaked the clips is probably dead now. Don’t fuck with my Queen.
This is all I know for now. As we all shake in our shorts with excitement, I, here on TheGayGuideNetwork will be the first source for all of your new Madonna album information. Until then, strike a pose. There’s nothing to it.
