Oh Tiger, what a twisted tale you have…
Another day and another salacious report on the state of Tiger Woods: the bizarre car crash, the jilted, humiliated wife, the ambulance leaving the Tiger den with a “mysterious blonde”, the 11 (and counting) mistresses, the buddy who hooked him up, the alleged drugs, the alleged purchasing of sexual favours, the millions in endorsements. It’s a gossip columnist’s wet dream.
This story has hit the media like a tsunami and even makes diddling David Letterman look like a choirboy. It has become fodder for massive amounts of speculation from sports and news pundits and amazing material for late night comic monologues.
Where are the so-called pro-marriage groups?
One thing has struck me as odd in this whole ridiculous mess: where are the so-called Pro Marriage mouthpieces?
Groups like Focus on the Family, the National Organization for Marriage and even Carrie Prejean have been noticeably absent from the chorus of Tiger tamers looking to insert their agenda into his, ahem, follies. FOF and NOM have been voraciously vocal about preserving the sanctity of and respect for the blessed institution of marriage and quite frankly, Tiger’s (and David Letterman’s) orgy of matrimonial missteps are doing nothing to show healthy marriages, not to mention respect for your wife.
Could it be that NOM and FOF and Carrie are actually nothing more than homophobes?
Any time a gay marriage issue rears its well-coiffed head, the aforementioned marriage mavens come flying out of the woodwork to spew dire warnings of the end of marriage as we know it – with the traditional family teetering on the edge of extinction. They warn that two homosexuals getting married will take society down in an ungodly avalanche of moral depravity. I guess when it comes to Tiger, these gay-hunting wolves don sheep’s clothing.
Then again, Tiger Woods and David Letterman are not gay. Could it be that NOM and FOF and Carrie are actually nothing more than homophobes who will stop at nothing to demonize gay people? Could it be that they have an anti-gay agenda that has absolutely nothing to do with marriage and family?
I’ll bet you my last drop of lube that if this was happening to a well-known gay couple (Ellen & Portia; Elton & David) there’d be anti-homo hell to pay and these sleazebags would be coming out of the woodwork with “I told you so’s” and a litany of anti-gay venom. Yet, no bites for Tiger.
You don’t suppose these people hate gays more than they love marriage and family? Nah, they must be busy drafting Proposition 8-1/2, banning golfers and talk show hosts from getting married.
