Shapes

I tell ya not much surprises me anymore working in this scene, but every once in a while something does.

I received an email from an associate of mine at Star69 Records who I’ll call Tom and he asked if one of my DJs who I’ll call Joe could do a remix of a popular track. I said sure, let Joe know and off the studio he went.

Tom told me Joe’s remix would be “an awesome package for Europe” and that he was “…so excited to hear (the) mix, this release is gonna be so huge”

Once the track was finished I sent it in, and Tom simply loved it and was astonished by the turn around time and quality of production. He later asked in an email “if there (was) any way Joe could make a dub mix too?” He continued to say, “We don’t offer percentage but I can get him a flat fee for his work… Maybe we can work out a deal for 2 or 3 remixes? Maybe we can get him on a new release or two as well in the future (have a couple big ones lined up)…”

As you can guess, I was very pleased.  I told Tom that once he spoke with his boss and had the method of payment sorted to let me know.

Later in the week I received an email from a Tom’s boss: Peter Rauhofer. Unlike the emails from Tom, Peter’s email was not of praise.

Now before I tell you what he said, let me first tell you when an artist like Joe gets asked to do a remix, it’s discussed upon delivery of the remix – or even before  – how the artist will be paid, all the details.  We all want to know how much, and when we’ll be paid for a job right?

Joe had also only asked me to inquire for him standard industry questions: “What kind of advance payment? Or is it a percentage? Or is it one big advance with no percentage? Who else is doing the remixes?” And, finally “what date will it be released?”

Here’s Peter Rauhofer’s email response:

“Miss Raquel Richards,

After reading your email below (above) I will REFUSE to even listen to the remix. It is REJECTED.”

Seriously?

See, some things are surprising. I mean to not even listen to the mix and refuse it upon commonly asked questions is not only unfair it’s unprofessional.

But then again this scene isn’t made up of that many professionals to begin with.

Correct, and bitter as you are YOU are first in line, otherwise you wouldn’t post business conversations on here to begin with.

PS: So true, “your” DJ’s are nothing better than how you name them. A next door “Joe”.

its unprofessional to post something like this

You’ve tried to make a deal and it didnt happen. WOW, big fucking thing!!!! You seem to have major lack of experience in this business and just can’t deal with “rejection”!
By posting business details about your client on here shows how unexperienced and unprofessional you really are and therefore I am not surprised you got treated that way by Peter Rauhofer as he is someone you only can learn from!
On one side you give your own client and the labels representative a nick name but then you have to mention Peter Rauhofer’s real name to make your smear campaign work….shows how insecure and manipulative you really are right there!
Your story is confusing to begin with as you first mention the label informed you upfront what the deal/payment will be but later you mention how you went back and asked them “what the deal will be?!”….and then you wonder to get the “moron” treatment!
Also if you think you are “Miss so famous Raquel”…trust, It doesn’t get you any sympathy if you are trying to washing dirty laundry in public. Especially when its your OWN.

What I love about the vitriol is that here is a woman whose blog is clearly about her life in the party scene, she has feelings about something that happened to her and a desire to express it and everyone is DOWN HER THROAT now that she has. Clearly fans of Peter Rauhofer, which is fine, but in your fandom, don’t attempt to squash the other side of the story or resent the other side for telling it.

  5. Priscilla Says:

Sorry, Miss Raquel is extremely unprofessional here and a major cry baby.
Get over it, it’s not the first time you’ve been chopped!

  6. Tony Maccaroni Says:

You are sad. Whatcha gonna complain about next? That you were not on the guestlist for a D-Unity party?

  7. Daniel Says:

I agree with English. Miss Raquel gives the finger to Rauhofer, Rauhofer’s minions race to attack. Transparent!!!!

  8. K-hole Says:

    Miss ‘WHO”??
Get a career first before you are trying to attempt being “fierce”.

  9. MisterMister Says:

Oh relax people…….it’s a blog!!!!!!! This is what blogs are for, for people to talk about the shit that’s going on?????

It sure got all of your attention didn’t it? That’s the point!

P.S. Like Peter Rauhofer much? I wonder what you would all say if the names were reversed? If Peter was getting the shaft?

    P.P.S. Peter Rauhofer sucks!

I’ve contacted Star69 before for business and the entire situation went badly. Total miscommunication issues.

It’s very easy to get bitter working in the music business… definitely some crooked characters around

  11. Marshmallow Says:

Sorry, Miss Raquel you are just plain stupid. You even have to post your own stupidity for everyone to show here? Pathetic! Peter might have realized your poor business tactics first but now we ALL do! Haha
I heard you are not only getting rejected when it comes to “business”. Hmmm, you should be used to it by now but I guess thats where your real bitterness actually comes from….

PS: If you emailed Peter in the same ignorant way you write your blogs I am not surprised about his reaction BUT Peter’s email to you was probably sent by some assistant to begin with. I doubt he personally would even spend 1 minute on someone unexperienced like you are.
Bottom line is: You fucked it up for your clients and try to blame someone else now.
Wouldn’t be the first time, right?
