So, we all know the story. The MTV movie awards scandal. Sasha Baron Cohen’s “Bruno” character descending from the rafters and landing face first in Eminem’s crotch. Baron Cohen’s bare ass mere inches from the rapper’s face. As the likes of Cameron Diaz watch in the audience, laughing hysterically, Eminem’s homies grab Sasha in total disgust and toss him to one side, and the posse leaves the awards in a homophobic huff.
Everyone had their own take on the situation. As I read the messages traversing the blogosphere I noticed that there were two camps of people. Those who thought that Eminem needed to get a sense of humour, and those who thought he was the victim, and that had they been in Eminem’s shoes they would have done the same (because no one should be subject to something that disgusting!).
It was even said Eminem should have KILLED the Borat star. KILLED. Those are the exact words from one blogger. “I would have KILLED him.”
Let’s play a little role reversal here. Imagine a woman in place of Baron Cohen, lowered into the same position directly on top of Cameron Diaz. What would the reaction be? What would bloggers be saying?
Turns out, of course, it was all a hoax, but before the truth came out, a lot of people showed their true colours … and I saw a lot greys and browns!
